When Negative is Good...

Yikes, it’s taken me a few days to get back to update my blog with all the latest happenings.

Rob went in Monday morning for surgery on his head for the bump. They called us as 8:30 and said that the doctor was ahead of schedule and could be get up there by 9:30 instead of 10:30, so we scurried around trying to get Jake ready, and dropped him off to pre-school a few minutes early (his teachers were very understanding). Got to the surgical center at about 9:40 (after first going to the wrong place), and then were told that the doctor wasn’t really ahead of schedule, and Rob wouldn’t get back into surgery until 11:30. Got to love doctor’s but as Rob said, it’s not really wise to get mad at people that are taking a scalpel to your head. It gave Rob and I some much appreciated alone time where we have nothing else to do but just sit and talk.

The surgery went great, although Rob has had his head cut open there so many times that he is running out of skin to stitch up. The doctor was really concerned about him bumping the area and reopening because it’s really tight. I guess the good news is that Rob is getting an accidental face lift with all of this, but he is required to keep the stitches in for some extra days to make sure everything heals, and he has no problems.

He was out of surgery and we were back home by about 3:30, and Rob was able to rest Monday & Tuesday, and felt like himself by Wednesday. We really appreciate Mom, Dad, and Jenny taking shifts with Jake on Monday while we were at the hospital. Jake had a great day hanging out with them. Also thanks to Circe for the yummy cupcakes, and to Jennie for taking Jake Wednesday so Rob could rest.

We got great news back from pathology yesterday as well, it looks like the mass wasn’t related to the non-Hodgkin’s, and is some other kind of mass. We don’t know yet what it is, but as long as it’s not cancer, we are happy. So Rob has a follow up appointment to get stitches out and to discuss the mass, and what it might be next week, until then we are just grateful that it's negative for cancer.

That was really quite enough excitement for one week, and I think my heart rate is now down where it is suppose to be, and we feel very, very blessed.

Today Jake had is first dental appointment. We know kids are suppose to start when they are 3, but Jake had some real fears about going to doctors offices from a scary breathing treatment issue right before he turned 3, so we were told to just hold off for a year or so. We found a great pediatric dentist that a friend referred us to, and they finally had some openings so Jake finally had his first appointment. He did great! Today was just a familiarization day, he wandered around the office, got a tour, and the dentist looked in his mouth. He has no cavities and the dentist said we are right on schedule, and he should have not ill effects from the thumb sucking as long as he quits at age 5 which we have been building to all year. We just need to think of some good positive reinforcements to help him with his goal of "no thumb when I'm 5". He goes back next week for his teeth cleaning.

I think that I’m probably pretty good at updating my blog once a week, so that is going to be my new goal, although who knows, I may find time to update more often.

That’s all for the Cranes.

I am glad Rob is doing better. We loved having Jake over to play. Hopefully our crazy house doesn't stress him out too much. ~Jen
